H&B FINALISTS IN KITOMBA NZARH BUSINESS AWARDS!!

H&B are very pleased to have been nominated as finalists in three categories of the 2011 Kitomba New Zealand Association of Registered Hairdressers Business Awards – Salon of the Year, Excellence in Marketing and Entrepreneur of the Year.

The awards recognise excellence in business in nine categories plus the Salon of the Year and are sponsored by Telecom New Zealand, Shock Consulting and Schwarzkopf. Kitomba CEO, Tom Murphy said, "The judges are going to have a hard time separating these finalists. All the entries were of a very high calibre and some of the performance recorded was astounding, given the broader economic conditions. It shows that even in difficult times if you deliver a quality product it is possible to work for love and money."

The New Zealand Association of Registered Hairdressers (NZARH) President, Ria Bond, said, "Too often excellence in business goes unrecognised in our industry, that’s why these awards are so important. And I’m very pleased that this year we’ve seen salons from around the country reach this stage of the competition."

The winners will be announced at the Industry Awards ceremony on 20th November in the War Memorial Museum in Auckland’s Domain.

LOVELY LIP TIPS

Making lips on the thin side look bigger is easy. Before you apply lip gloss, dab a small amount of a reflective eye shadow or creme in a soft gold or cream colour to your cupid's bow. It will play up the light and create the illusion that your lips are fuller than they really are!

For a hint of colour on the go, rub a creamy lip tint or lipstick (but steer clear of long-lasting ones) onto the apples of your cheeks. It gives a nice natural flush. Then add it just in the very centre of your lips for fullness.

HAIRY FACT – DEATH OF NATURAL BLONDE

Scientists are predicting that the natural hair colour light blonde will have disappeared by the end of this century. It’s the fault of our genes. The blonde gene is unfortunately only inherited recessively and thus darker hair is frequently dominant, and as it’s more rare that light blonde people over generations, the gene will have disappeared in the foreseeable future.

Good news: you don’t have to be blonde – you can become it – with better and gentler methods than ever. Talk to us today!

A CHANGE OF COLOUR

There are times when you just want to give yourself a new look. In no time at all, new outfits are hanging in your wardrobe, but somehow you still look like the same old you. It's time to tackle your hair.

Of course, nothing changes your look more than a radically different haircut or hair colour.

Colour consulting is very important. You shouldn't necessarily insist on a certain colour that looks really great on another person. The new colour really has to harmonise with the basic skin tone and can even considerably improve the skin tone.

Although hair tends to grow rather slowly, even if it's just over a centimetre a month, the roots will be visible after no later than our weeks. For colour transformations from dark to light, this isn't a problem. A hint of dark roots can even create an illusion of depth in blonde hair. Whether roots really bother you or not depends largely on the haircut.

For short, rather tousled and well texturised layered cuts, they're hardly noticable. For flatter cuts, you should get your roots touched up every four weeks. And this is particularly important for colours in the medium blonde to darker range. Because whilst blonde can look good with visibly darker roots, this isn't the case the other way round.

HOME CARE HAIR TIP

It is often minor neglect that lastingly damages the hair. It's important to treat your hair with care.

It starts with your shampoo: this should perfectly match your hair type and stability. We'd be happy to advise you. Gently lather up the shampoo and knead it in without rubbing. Then thoroughly rinse and when you dry your hair don't rub, but gently press out the hair into the towel.

When detangling the hair always use a first-class comb and always start at the tips. That way, you are less likely to tear the hair.
